Interview with Emperor Qin Shi Huang

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment during your rule and why?

A: I believe my greatest accomplishment is starting the Great Wall of China built. The wall helps all of China. I have made a successful barrier to protect my empire from the Mongol invaders. It also is a great landmark and will become better even when I pass.

Q: Do you think following legalism was the best way to run your empire?

A: I believe everyone is selfish and bad in the world. I would consider legalism as the best way because it provides strict law and order. Everyone knows that I am in charge and that prevents any bad things. That is why I have not had many robberies or rebels.

Q: Explain the construction and the people working on the Great Wall of China?

A: The Great Wall of China is a very big wall. It runs more than 3700 miles long. I have peasants, criminals, and anyone I do not like work on it.Many of my workers have died but it is worth it because now we will have a great wall to protect us.

Q: Why did you create a standardized system of weights, measures, money, and law?

A: I like everything to be in order. By making a standardized system of all of these I can make sure everything is orderly and everyone is on the same page. If there was different kinds of money for example it would be hard for shop owners because everyone would be giving a different kind of currency.

Q: Were there any other reasons for building the great wall besides protection?

A: Yes, I built the great wall for a couple of reasons. One of course was to create protection. The wall also separated my empire from the rest of China and the people of the north. This showed the others that my empire was better than the others.
